OLY011 Noel Carroll (holding the Lord Mayor's Mace), 1975
Noel Carroll was one of Ireland’s finest middle distance runners. He represented Ireland at the Tokyo Olympics (1964) and Mexico Olympics (1968). He led the group that established the Dublin City Marathon in 1980. Noel served as Public Relations Officer for Dublin Corporation from 1972 to 1996. The Noel Carroll Memorial Trophy is now presented to the winner of the Dublin City Marathon.
This photo is from the Dublin City Council Photographic Collection. This unique collection is an educational resource and provides a basis for original research on the history of Dublin from the second half of the twentieth century.
