073 Paddy Cullen

Paddy Cullen, Civic Reception for the Dublin Team, GPO, O'Connell Street, 25 September 1978

Paddy Cullen was understandably the hero of the hour for Dublin fans after the controversial refereeing decision that led to Mikey Sheehy's goal. The fans humourously chanted '1,2,3,4,5' for each of the goals that went past him.

There was a huge turn-out on the streets of Dublin for the defeated All-Ireland finalists. Each player was lifted shoulder-high to the chants of 'Super-Dubs'. One prophetic seller was crying out: 'Get your hats for next year'!
