054 Yard of Morgan's Cottages, Power's Court
This photograph is one of those taken by W.J. Joyce in 1913 to illustrate the dreadful living conditions in Dublin. Behind the elegant façade of Dublin’s Georgian houses, small warrens of cottages were built to house the poor. The children in the picture are unusual in that they have shoes and look relatively well dressed. Morgan's Cottages do not appear on the 1911 census, but Morgan's Court does. Morgan’s Court no longer exists but Power’s Court is still extant, located close to Mount Street in Dublin 2.
See the inhabitants of Morgan's Court on the 1911 census.
